HERstory of TRY Volleyball
TRY was born in 2002 when the NDSU volleyball alumni started competing regularly in adult USA Volleyball events & needed a team name. The team was fond of the 1994 blockbuster comedy Dumb & Dumber especially the scene when Lloyd tells Harry “Just when I think you couldn’t get any dumber… you go & do something like this… & Totally Redeem Yourself”… TRY earned the beloved team name & shouts of “Just TRY” could be heard with joyful giggles whenever a teammate would miss the mark during a match.
Fast forward to 2012, teammate Heather Evans (Coach Heather), took the name & turned it into “TRY Volleyball”, a fun, light-hearted, welcoming way of bringing volleyball training opportunities to adults on the beaches of San Diego, CA with professional & Olympic athletes. The training reached the juniors' game & found stops in Northern Minnesota & Fargo, ND.
TRY Volleyball relaunched in 2026 to serve all ages & stages in life by using the best sport ever (volleyball…no bias whatsoever) for physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and community growth. Athletes of all ages can find support here in beach & indoor. Whether you desire training, competition or both, TRY Volleyball has something special in store for you. All you gotta do is show up & TRY!
